Safety

  • DO NOT ENTER ANY HOMES! Even if it is the home of someone you know, DO NOT ENTER under ANY circumstance!

  • If you feel uncomfortable somewhere, LEAVE and TELL YOUR ZONE ADULT!

  • Stay in your groups: It is crucial that you stay with your partner in your assigned areas!

  • AVOID the following: businesses, churches, houses with “No soliciting” posted, and addresses we have listed as “do not visit”

Protocol

When you get to a door, knock (politely), or ring the doorbell, and then do the following:
-If a child answers the door, ask to speak to an adult.
-If an adult answers the door, please say the following:

“Hello, my name is _____________(first name only) and I am a member of the Harvey Red Raider Marching Band. We are going into the community and asking for donations to help support our band program. Is this something would be able to help us with”?

If someone asks you if we have permission, or a permit to do this activity, let them know that your band directors have taken care of all of the details and ask them to please contact one of them with any further questions.

Engage

  • Quick facts to help engage in more conversation:
    The band has 150+ members and is the 2nd largest band in all of Lake County!
    Donations help us pay for: food, uniforms, travel expenses, instruments, and supplies.

  • Tell them where we are traveling to this year!

  • Uniforms cost approximately $500 each

  • Marching instrument costs range from $500 (flute) to $5,000+ (tuba) EACH

  • We can accept cash, checks, and electronic payments. Please make checks payable to: “Harvey Band Boosters”

Collect

  • Say “thank you for your support” after receiving the donation and ask to leave a tag so we know which houses we have visited.

  • If you do not receive a donation, please say “thank you for your time” and leave.
